Automating forensic image collection with F-Response Collect

Jun 23, 2026

We got a great email last week from a customer walking us through their F-Response Collect automation project. Using the APIs we publish, they'd put together a complete process for getting F-Response Collect on a remote system (using one of a handful of deployment tools within their environment), getting it running, selecting the proper collection target, and kicking off the collection itself.

All without human interaction.

Sure, they're still going to be involved in reviewing the collected data, which I personally believe is the right way to handle jobs like these. Automate the simple stuff, getting that image collected, then bring the human resources to bear on those results.

We need people focused on that deep investigation, not the collection tasks. Networks are unstable. Machines enter and exit wifi constantly. Windows Updates are a near constant fixture in our lives. If anything, automation of image collection and automatic restart/resume isn't a nice to have, it's a have to have. Let the scripts and automation take over that part of the process so you can save yourself for the challenges that come with pouring through the results.

This is why we designed F-Response Collect the way we did. We built it from the ground up with an API that's accessible using simple HTTPS methods.

It's easy.

It's documented.

It's automation that frees you up to turn your mental processor loose on the results.

You'll find the details in the F-Response Collect manual.

Good luck with your automation! Let the machine handle the boring stuff while you work on the important things.

Warmest Regards,

M Shannon
