Mission Guides - Focused Task Training for F-Response
Mar 18, 2026
It occurred to me this morning that I've been using the term "Mission Guide" for years now and might be taking for granted that you just know what I'm talking about.
Maybe this is a good time for a refresher.

Mission guides are single task training PDFs we develop and put on the F-Response Website to show you how to do very specific things with our products. Think of them as much more specialized than the manual, covering the discrete set of steps necessary to accomplish a very specific task.
Over the years, we've accumulated a lot of different mission guides covering a large number of different projects and posted them all on our website. Here's a subset of what you'll find guides on:
Using the F-Response Collect X-Tension with X-Ways Forensic
A walkthrough on how to use a custom X-Tension dll we've developed to let F-Response Collect users explore custom file collections directly from X-Ways.
Using F-Response Collect with Apple OSX
A detailed mission guide covering collecting file and folder content from remote Apple OSX machines using F-Response Collect.
Connecting to Dropbox
A short mission guide on how to use F-Response to collect data from Dropbox.
Covert Deployment to a Windows Subject
A mission guide on covertly deploying F-Response to a remote Microsoft Windows machine.
And that's just a subset. If we get asked about something more than once, we do our best to make it into a mission guide and get it up on the website.
We get that this is a complicated field of study and that there's a lot to keep track of. We want to make sure you can fill all that cranial real estate with investigative concepts and processes, and offload the steps necessary to get to data with F-Response to a few specially designed PDFS.
I hope the help. If you have ideas for more mission guides, don't hesitate to contact us.
Thanks!
Warmest Regards,
M Shannon
